Great efforts of Raja Balwant Singh of Awagarh with honourable Malviya ji for inclusion of Hindi in Govt Documents &Courts in 1898.——-
Raja Balwant Singh (C.I .E ,O.B.E)of Awagarh was noted for his Philanthropy in the field of education.He was also a very close friend and associate of honourable Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya ji.In English period ,in 1898 Raja Balwant Singh of Awagarh was a party in the delegation led by Malviya ji accompanied by Maharaja Pratap Narayan Singh of Ayodhya ,Raja Ram Prasad Singh of Mandu ,Dr Sunder Lal ,Shre Krishna Joshi ji approached to Sir AntonyMcDonald ,the Deputy Viceroy in the Government House at Prayag for inclusion of “Hindi or Nagri Script” as one of the working languages in governments documents and Courts .The hard worked undertaken by Malviya bore fruit.All his points were approved and finally on 18 April 1900 ,Sir A P McDonald issued a release in the Government Gazette by which the “Hindi or Nagri Script”too was included in the schedule of Courts and Government working languages and Scripts.It was due to their efforts Hindi was added as one of the working languages in government documents and Courts .
Raja Balwant Singh Awagarh was loved hindi poetry. Ratnakar was an active member of the Nagari Pracharini Sabha.He began to write in Braj and Braj alone around 1890 ,around the time of his brief work as ,Secretary for the Raja Balwant Singh of Awagarh in the Etah district near Agra .
Although he himsef did not receive the benefit of education ,his deep interest in education was symbolised in established of the Rajput School in 1898 ,with the active co-operation of late Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya ji and Thakur Umrao Singh of Kotla.
His elder son Raja Suraj pal Singh ji also financeally helped Late Ravindra Nath Tagore ji to set-up Shantiniketan.
RajaBalwant Singh of Awagarh for two years was a member of lieutenant Governor’s Council on Jan 1 1898 he was created a Companion of the Indian Empire (C .I .E) as a recognition of his public services during the famine of 1899and other occassions.During the Vice -Royalty lord Curzon Raja Balwant Singh Awagarh attended the Delhi Darbar in 1902 ;he became a member of the Provincial Council under the Minto-Morley Reforms.
